Types of gamers

Socialiser

Socialisers play the games for the community, they enjoy interacting with other people playing the games. Tools which facilitate making social connections draw them to play those certain games. Due to the introductions of platforms such as Youtube and Twitch these social gamers are thriving as there are more ways to meet and talk to other gamers and share there gaming experiences.

Achiever

Achievers mainly play the games because they want to be the best whether it is reaching a goal or setting a new record. These type of gamers feel rewarded when they complete or achieve something within the game. For example, unlocking a new level or being at the top of a leaderboard. This is why many platforms now have reward systems and unlockable achievements.

Explorer

Explorers enjoy the geographical and undiscovered aspects of games. For example, these types of gamers are the ones that love to explore a new map when it is first released or try and find a new area of the map no one has yet discovered.

Killer

These are the players who are in the game to assert their dominance. These type of players get a thrill out of killing or taunting their opponent. They love it when they come up against someone who is weaker and less experienced in the game as they can dominate them.

I took the 'Bartle Test of Gamer Psychology'. After answering the questions within the test, the results came back. It explains that I am a socialiser. I think this is because I enjoy exploring maps and discovering new things within games.

Task 7

I think my pen portrait audience member would enjoy Hellblade because they fit the target audience of the game. This person enjoys films of the same genre as Hellblade such as Game of Thrones and Harry Potter, these are considered fantasy. Therefore I believe this person would like Hellblade.

Task 8

I think there are certain aspects to Hellblade that the target audience would enjoy more than others. These are the fighting scenes that are scattered across the game. The target audience will enjoy these because they like fantasy/mythical creatures and violence and these scenes are packed full of violence and the opponents in these fights are mythical creatures.

Task 9

The target audience may find out about Hellblade through many ways of advertisement such as magazines, websites or billboards. However, I think the most likely way that the target audience for Hellblade would find out about the game is through adverts that appear on other games and gaming websites. They would be attracted by the fantasy aspects of the game.
